Unbridled Koyaanisqatsi – Translation Koyaanisqatsi “Life Out of Balance”.
At the expense of the natural environment, the safety of human beings and the earth’s collective resources, the so called “developed countries” of the world spend billions if not trillions of dollars devising weapons of mass destruction capable of destroying all life on the planet, yet they are not willing to collectively spend what is necessary to protect the natural environment and rid the world of diseases most often created by the very process and execution of their so called “technological and economic advancement”.
The video below shows what the world’s rivers are becoming:
Reality Check
We are seemingly caught up in an inescapable vortex of environmental destruction and the proliferation of unhealthy junk foods insidiously unleashed upon people of the world. All of which is precipitated by human greed and selfishness, the acquisition of money supersedes the well being of the planet and its inhabitants.
Nearly half of the world’s species of plants, animals and microorganisms, will be destroyed or severely threatened within the next 25 years, due to deforestation
Currently 121 prescription drugs sold worldwide have their genesis in the rainforest.
It is said that “25% of western pharmaceuticals are derived from rainforest ingredients, yet less that 1% of rainforest species have been tested by scientist”.
Sadly, by the time their importance is recognized, they may be all gone like the Madagascar Periwinkle from its natural habitat
Every year, lack of safe water and proper sanitation result in 2 million child deaths and 443 million missed school days.
HALF of all hospital beds in the developing world are filled with people sick from waterborne diseases. More people die of diarrhea from unsafe water and poor sanitation than from armed conflict.
Water is one of your most immediate needs in a survival situation. You won’t live long without it, especially in hot areas where you lose water rapidly through perspiration.
More than three-fourths of your body is composed of fluids. Your body loses fluid as a result of heat, cold, stress, and exertion. To function effectively, you must replace the fluid your body loses. An adequate supply of safe water is crucial to human survival, the percentage of the world’s available surface water that is now contaminated is not only alarming but frightening.
We are fortunate in Dominica to still have relatively safe potable water.
There are millions of people in the world who have to drink water that we would not want to even put our feet into.
It is indeed lamentable when even the things we need most to survive become the greatest threat to our very existence.
Human Species Under Threat
We see human beings fearing to walk on the streets because the air they breathe is hazardous to their health.
We see babies being born with high levels of mercury in their systems because their mothers ate fish caught in a contaminated ocean.
The greatest incentive to research and develop cures for diseases is based on how much money can be made.
We see products on the shelves of supermarkets labeled as “natural” yet they contain trans-fat and chemicals which are known to be carcinogenic, almost every box drink you buy in supermarket these days contain “high fructose corn syrup” many products contain BHT and BHA which are preservatives used to prevent products form going rancid and have longer shelf life, they are harmful to humans.
So here we are at the mercy of powerful countries perpetually creating weapons to kill us all, an industrialized world gone mad polluting and destroying the natural environment, the houses in which we live slowly poison us with formaldehyde and other toxins, the very air we breathe is harmful to us.
The earth which sustains us is saturated with poisons, most of the food available to us is not fit for human consumption, the rainforest the lungs of the earth is disappearing at a rapid rate.
Some of our oceans, rivers, lakes and sources of water are so polluted that they are hazardous to our heath.
Have you heard of the Great Pacific Patch? Now there is also the Atlantic Garbage Patch and the Indian Ocean garbage Patch, look out people the Caribbean Garbage Patch may be on its way!!, the world is out technologizing and out garbaging itself (that is a word I made up) you may think that I am an alarmist but the evidence speaks for itself
